gifting the girlz.

Dana’s Beauty Supply opened in 2021 as an experimental pop-up beauty supply store in Brooklyn, created by Korean and Black American interdisciplinary artist Dana Davenport. Growing up in Seoul shaped her lens, especially when thinking about the long-standing relationship between Black beauty and Korean ownership in the U.S.

Studio Symoné curated the gift bags for their 2022 pop up.

The store carried inventory curated by Paris Beauty Supplyz, offered free Korean-language classes taught by Eve Talley, and set blowout sale prices with proceeds going back into Black communities. It was a space that asked questions while still supplying what people came for.

Dana’s Beauty Supply treated the beauty supply store as a site for cultural exchange, care, and conversation.
